The American Apparel and Footwear Association gathered this week in Washington D.C. at the stored Watergate Hotel for their annual Executive Summit. The year’s theme was ‘Rebels, Influencers and Transformers,’ and ended with a Keynote by Mitt Romney. Executives from top fashion brands, including lululemon, Coach, Spanx, and New Balance also spoke, as did Major Garrett, Chief White House Correspondent, CBS News.
Author Elizabeth Cline was a featured panelist on the “The Pros and Cons of Fast Fashion.” Fast fashion has influenced and changed the fashion industry in both the most unexpected and expected ways. As the panelists discussed, it’s changed the notion of who sets trends, sped up fashion, eroded profit margins and come with environmental and human impacts. How can brands adapt and reposition in a climate where ethics and transparency are key. Cline was joined on the panel by Roberto Ramos, Senior Vice President, Strategy & Communications of The Doneger Group and Matt Smith, Founder of ICIX.
